So one of the requirement from the city for issuing the permit is to build a tree protection barrier around the protected tree. Like the one illustrated below. After some back and forth with the forestry department, it seems that all we need to do is to build a 4′ tall fence 6 m away from the tree using orange webbing.
So together with my cousin we sent out to build the fence.
The first thing we wanted to do however is to remove that little play house / tree house in the back of the yard. Since no construction work can occur inside the tree protection zone, it means I cannot have that tree house teared away by heavy construction vehicle. So I decided that I will take it down myself and then just leave the garbage where the house is to be hauled away by the demolition crew. Here’s the structure in question that I wanted to tear down.
I have to say tearing down this little house is kind of fun. We get to throw huge things crashing down to the floor. It certainly was entertaining. However, the person built this little house really have no clue what he’s doing. There are places that are built way too tough while there are places that are failing apart easily. Making it taking longer than I expected.
Here’s a clip of us taking down the roof of the tree house.
After a whole day worth of “destruction”, we cut down the four walls and thrown them down to the ground as well. We also managed to take down the deck of the tree house. Tomorrow we need to remove the rest of the smaller things and build the tree protection barrier.
For the tree protection barrier, I used a few metal fence spikes and fence posts that I have lying around. Then I just stapled the orange webbing to it. The two post at the end of the tree house also just happen to be a good distance and so I used them as well.
Finally done. Now let’s hope the city’s urban forestry department is happy with it and provide us with the clearance letter.
