Prepare for stucco (EIFS) day 2

Salman Ibili and the crew from Discover Stucco Plus is here setting up the rest of the scaffolding for stucco. Okay I call it stucco because that’s what it looks like when finished and a lot of time that’s still what people call it. But this is really an EIFS or Exterior Insulation Finishing System. I will refer them by their proper name from this point on.

Today they’ve got the scaffolding completed and they will start the EIFS work on Saturday.

Scaffolding

This is my back yard right now. You can see the scaffolding all around the house and some more scaffolding lying on the ground as well as materials piled around.

Scaffolding

The EFIS wall system we are installing on my house is from Durabond a company located locally here in Scarborough. The particular system we are installing is Durex Quantum Select. This is a pressure moderated, dual barrier, non-combustible, drained EIFS.

Here’s some of the materials that will make up the EIFS.

Durex Blue Shield is a water based copolymer rubber airbarrier and waterproofing membrane. This will be applied to all of my exterior sheathing to provide a continuous water penetration / air barrier for my EIFS. Durex Flexcrete will be mixes with others and will be used as the joint treatment and base coat for cement board substrates for the north wall.

EIFS material

1/2″ Cement board will be fastened to the north wall sheathing before the EIFS is installed since it has to be a non-combustible wall.

Here’s the Durex Quantum Select foam board for the EIFS. We are using 3″ thick boards. These boards provides a 10mm geometrically defined drainage cavity.

And here’s a pile of portland cement.
