Dean is here today to start some planning work on the HVAC duct installation. This house has a lot of duct work. There are two sets of separate duct since I want the HRV duct to run on its dedicated duct system. And the furnace is placed in the corner of the house with duct work laid out very specifically to make sure ceiling are high where it matters. And because of the small size of the house the duct must be place exactly or else it won’t have enough room to fit.
So before the HVAC work is even quotes, I have modeled all the duct work based on the revised HVAC design. I then produced a 3D layout of how I think the duct will run and give that to Dean so that he understand what I am after.
With the proposed layout in 3D in hand, Dean looked around the house, took some measurement to see if the duct work will fit or not. A few registers are marked on the floor.
This register was supposed to be located horizontally along the wall. But the joist under the floor does not allow it to be located horizontally. So we have to move it vertically and locate it along the glass guard rail.
And here’s the main duct wall right after the stair opening. Here’s nearly all the large ducts that needs to go to the second floor is located. When the framer comes in to frame up this wall, I will ask them to specifically match the studs from 1st floor to the 2nd floor.
While Dean is here doing HVAC work, ESA inspector also came to inspect the electrical utility connection work. Everything is good, but he asked to have stronger blocking to secure the clevis outside. Here as you can see the bolt that’s securing the clevis is only secured to the 2×2 strapping on the wall. The two piece of wood running horizontally is filling in the 2×2 strapping space and the one 2×6 that runs vertically is screwed to the 2×2 strapping as well. The inspector asked to have it secured to blocking that’s screwed to 2×6 wall studs.
Abdul came the next day and added two pieces of 2×6 blocking to the 2×6 stud wall exactly as request.
