Did some work to put the Schluter System’s KERDI boards up. I’ve got the shower niche installed as well and the shower pane cut to size. The KERDI boards are secured using special washers for the KERDI boards and screws onto the stud.

Today a delivery of Schluter Systems products. These are going into the bathroom to make the bathroom water tight as well as create the liner drain channels that I wanted to create. Here what you see are the KERDI boards. These are waterproof foam boards that’s used to board up the shower areas. Now we are finishing up all the vapour barriers. We are using CertainTeed MemBrain which adapt its permeability depending on the climatic conditions. This is to avoid trapped moisture inside the wall which can happen if you use traditional 6 mil polyethylene vapour barrier. Finishing up the batt insulation today. Here is the roof above the open to below area all completed. Building science taught us that air sealing of the house is more important than raw insulation value. While the spray foam seals the space from stud to stud, there’s still the gap between the studs that needs to be sealed. Here’s an example in the bathroom there the gap between the studs are now sealed with caulking. Also the gap between the bottom plate and the sub-floor is also sealed with caulking. More batt insulation installation on the 2nd floor. Finally finished the south wall in the bathroom. So the bathroom is now completed. More batt insulation installation by myself over the weekend. This time concentrating on the 1st floor walls. Here we have walls on the west side. More batt installation with my cousin today. Here on the first floor, where before, I only have the Roxul ComfortBoard installed, we have R22 Roxul ComfortBatt installed. Since cutting the Roxul ComfortBoard is such a slow work, I decided to tackle it a bit over the weekend. So after 2 days of hard work, the north wall is done. Here’s the 1st floor on the west side. The 2×2 stud space are all filled. A few 2×6 wall cavities are also filled. More batt installation with my cousin today. Still working on north wall of the 2nd floor as well as the ceiling of the 2nd floor. Here’s the north wall around the stair opening completed. |
