Door trim day 1

Cleiton Batista from Batista Contractor is here today to work on the door frames. One might ask why is the door frame being installed before you even have drywall? We are doing a no trim finish. Meaning that there will be no trims around door frames or window frames. So drywall will have to go all the way to the door frame. And that’s why door frame has to be installed before drywall is hung.

Caulking windows

I decided to caulk all the windows myself instead of getting some contractor to do the job. And because I choose a white exterior colour with black window frame, the caulking becomes a slightly more complicate job because you want to make sure the caulking lines are crisp. I am using LePage QUAD White Sealant to caulk my windows. So first, I use painter’s tape and tape up all the window frames.

Basement window

There are quiet some big gaps between the foundation wall and the basement windows, so when I found some time, I decide to foam up the basement window myself. Just like the rest of the house, I used Great Stuff Window & Door Insulating Foam from Home Depot and filled up all the gaps.

Insulating foam

Decided to seal the window and the door with some insulating foam today. Bought a couple of cans of Great Stuff Window & Door Insulating Foam from Home Depot. And just go up and down everywhere and put foams in between all the openings between the window and door frame and the rough opening.

Insulating Foam

A few rough opening is way bigger. So in total I used 11 cans of the sealant. A few places probably can use a bit more foam. If I get time, I will add some more. But in general it should be all good now. Later I can try find some foam backing rod and caulk the windows and doors on the outside.

Rear entrance door installed

Got the rear entrance door installed today. It has to be installed so that the stucco work can complete on the back. The area around front entrance door will have wood cladding. So the front entrance door can wait until later.

This is a very heavy door. Thermally broken aluminum door with a dual pane tempered glass. A 60″ vertical ladder pull is used as the door handle. The ladder pull is offset toward the middle of the door to give access to the lock. For the lock, it is paired with a digital lock that accepts a normal key, a key code, or a RFID tag, and it has an electric motor that will automatic lock / unlock the door.

Doors fixed

The doors are now fixed and delivered to me again. The ladder pull is installed and the threshold now are both black. The one to the left is the front entrance door and the one to the right is the rear entrance door which is a mirror image of the front.
